AI writes for everyone. A CV writer writes for you

If you want a new CV or an update on your current one, what choices do you have?

  1. Put it through AI and get a generic CV.
  2. Send it to a different CV writing company or CV writer and potentially get another ‘standard’ CV.
  3. Get in touch with me for a CV that helps you stand out.

Admittedly, I may be a little biased in recommending option 3, but I wanted to clarify why.

AI
It’s an incredible technology that could potentially have as great an impact on the world as the internet, however, the reality is that it can only reformulate information it has scraped off the internet.

“AI is plagiarism software because it doesn’t create anything. It copies existing work, modifying it enough to escape copyright law.” Noam Chomsky, linguist and philosopher

So, essentially, using AI to write your CV is like using uninspiring and scraggy leftovers to make a wonderful meal. You or whoever you’re cooking for deserve better than that. You deserve fresh ingredients, don’t you?

Other CV Companies
Disclaimer – There are many highly reputable CV writers and companies who have a similarly people-focused approach to me. In this instance, I’m referring to the CV factory type companies where you submit your CV to an anonymous email and then get a CV back without any contact. Everyone has their preferred way of working, but…

How can they truly reflect who you are and what you can offer if they haven’t had the chance to get to know you, even a little?

All they have is what you give them and sometimes that isn’t enough. Using people, coaching and yes, writing skills can all help in lifting a previously grey document into something that sparkles with energy and vitality.

JNCV (aka me)
My key point is that I believe it is essential for me, the writer, to have a meeting/video call with my client to get more of an insight into who they really are as maybe they don’t know how to present that on a CV. This is something that a CV factory-type company and at least at the moment, AI cannot do.

Working with a writer is a commitment, not just financially, but also in your career. And yes, keywords are necessary to maximise ATS opportunities, but this isn’t CV bingo.

It’s also important to create a well-written document that makes reading it as easy as possible for the recruiter to get what they need and then contact you immediately after they read it because they know you’re perfect for that role they have.

Others may prefer different methods, but this has always been my preferred way of working. I like to the look into the eyes of my clients, even if it is via a Zoom or Google Meet video call.

Like many things in life, it’s about the people and building rapport and trust.

It makes the process more personable and enjoyable for (hopefully) both parties.

Conclusion
So, in an age of AI where you can generate a generic CV in a few seconds, what is the value in working with a writer who can do it for you?

It’s always my aim to build rapport and trust with my clients to create a targeted and personalised CV to help get them the interview and the job that they want.

I’ve had some happy clients who have given me testimonials over the years which is both lovely and rewarding.

If you would like to be one of those happy clients, get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.
