No.
At first, I wanted to leave it at that, but thought that it would be a very short post and so I’d better explain myself as perhaps it’s obvious that I would say that as I’m a CV writer myself.
I drive an automatic car. A Fiat 500. And I love it. And I remember a friend saying something that struck me when we got the car a few years ago.
“But isn’t it cheating?”
“Is what cheating?”
“Driving an automatic?”
“No.”
Driving an automatic car
It’s very common for drivers in the UK to drive manual cars. So perhaps that’s why driving an automatic is seen as cheating? I don’t know. More than 300 million people drive an automatic in the USA. Are they all cheating? I passed my driving test many moons ago using a gearstick so, technically, I can drive a manual car. I just prefer not to because I find it easier.
I would rather let the car’s ‘automatic-ness’ do the work for me as more importantly, it’s much better than I would be driving a manual car.
Trusting a professional
Who you gonna call when your drains are blocked? Or your car breaks down? Unless you are particularly talented in the DIY department (and good on you if you are), I imagine you’d call a professional such as a plumber or a mechanic. Is that cheating?
Or is it better getting someone with experience, expertise and qualifications to do the work for you. Because they would get a much better result than you.
That’s just common sense, isn’t it?
And as for being able to trust a CV writer. I totally agree.
In the same way that we would get a recommendation from someone we know, check LinkedIn recommendations (here’s mine by the way) or perhaps less so, see some of the plumber’s, mechanic’s or builder’s previous work, the same applies. CV writers with ethics would expect you to do your due diligence for a paid service.
So, going back to my original question – Is it cheating to use a CV writer?
Funnily enough, my answer remains the same. And as I live in Spain, here it is in Spanish.
No.
And though I would highly recommend anyone other than me to fix your drains or car, if you’d like some help writing your CV, get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.
