You don’t always need to know the destination to make progress

I was recently reminded of a lovely holiday that we had last year during which loved exploring the cities of Porto and Lisbon, two very different and incredible cities.

I sometimes like to know where I am and where I’m going when I’m travelling and for that, Google Maps can be incredibly helpful. However from time to time, taking a chance on going ‘off-grid’ and following your nose, sometimes literally as I love garlic and coffee, or ordering a drink or food in a place where you don’t speak the language, can be risky, but exhilarating.

And this approach can be applied to other things too. For example, if you feel stuck in your job, career or are even unsure about your CV, sometimes taking a chance on applying for that job can take you forward to where you want to be.

Maybe you won’t get the interview. But maybe you will

Maybe you won’t get the job. But maybe you will.

See where I’m going with this?

And of course, you don’t have to travel to another country for a dose of new perspectives as they are always around us if we are open to them.

Most of us look down or ahead when we’re walking along on a street and that’s a very practical thing to do to understandably avoid walking into the road or bumping into people.

However, how often have you stopped to look up and above you when you’re walking along that street that you’ve walked down down countless times before?

Maybe there’s a beautiful piece of architecture, an amusing billboard or maybe there’s nothing at all, but there could be. And that in itself is worth a stop and a look from time to time instead of walking down the same old street looking at the same old things.

Sometimes shaking things up a bit with our CVs, job searching and perhaps even life itself, can give us not only the possibility of something positive coming out of trying something new, but who knows, maybe in reality too?
